Autechre - Move Of Ten

Music Reviews

Autechre Move of 10

They did it again, the duo from Manchester releases a killer new ten track Ep derived from their just released Oversteps. Not even three months after their latest release, Rob and Sean surprises their listeners with a new double vinyl distributed in two five track Eps, this in not the first time they do this kind of thing, just after the release of Quaristice, Quadrange come as a digital only special outtakes album. Move of Ten comes as said before, in two Eps keeping the aesthetics of its predecessor by the always elegant The Designers Republic.
Whenever I get a new Autechre album is when i’m stating to understand the previous one, but in this case, Move of Ten seems pretty audible at first...some of the tracks have a four to the floor beat!extrange..
So, swiming through the Album, Etchtogon, the first track is a hectic mess of apparently non rhythmic drums, as usual, they turn it into some outer space hip hop from hell. Y7 the promo track of the album is one of the previous mentioned “four-to-the-floor” beats, but the synth line is nothig but plain or straight..absolutely hypnotising. The next track “pce_freeze_28i” sound like some kind of Industrial Dubstep, continuous drum loop again with non stop synth crazyness. Dark and heavy.
My favourite track: “rew1’ pure hip hop from the future, they are the masters of this discipline, Its like Man Parrish meets Akira.
Further along we find Iris Was pupil, this track uses some recognisable synth sounds from Oversteps, with those arpeggios only possible using custom programming.
M62 is suprisingly house sounding, not usual, Autechre’s own recipe of chicago stabs, it it works perfect.
In general its a great album, even for the non common Autechre listeners, I personally enjoyed it more than Oversteps, but maybe is just a matter of time, sometimes the son is stronger than the father.
10/10***
