Inception

After hearing rave reviews about Inception, I took the plunge to attend the nearest cinema and watch it. It didn’t disappoint. What a show! The plot was ingenious I thought, the casting was terrific, action was not lacking and it required you to think! Christopher Nolan uses the complexities of the mind to come up with the film that hasnt been seen before. The director of the Dark Knight has almost completed a full circle with his original idea. That was, a budget film with roughly the same idea as Inception.
The film started with Di Caprio attempting to get a piece of information from a room. He is captured and then it starts going back and forward in time. The first thirty minutes, I was lost! It wasn’t until after that the plot of the movie became apparent. From then on, more and more information was revealed and allowed me and the rest of the viewers to guess what was coming next.
The plot of the movie is about planting an idea into someones head through dreams. If someone can have something embedded during a dream, then wake up and believe that its real, it opens up a range of possibilities. A businessman is looking to break up a rivals business and after hearing of Di Caprio’s work and ability to plant dreams in people, here lies his hardest challenge. He has to plant three dreams and go deeper than he has ever went before. He comes across challenges from his earlier life, puts his co-workers in grave danger and nearly gets killed himself several times. Its the riskiest move so far. The side twist to this is that Cobb, Di Caprio’s character, has a wife who died. The reality is that she is caught up in a dream and its not safe for her to come back to the real world. Throughout the film, Cobb is found to keep seeing her in other peoples dreams which affect the current job he is working on. This is how Cobb keeps putting his workers in danger with his wife in the dreams, she becomes uncontrollable at times and makes the dream unstable.
The film gets left open for an inception 2, and it would be worth watching. I was curious as to what this film might bring, but it was worth watching. A bit confusing at the start can leave some people uninterested with where its going, but when things become a little clearer, you find yourself getting very involved in the plot.
I was trying to think of films that compare to this and I wasn’t coming across that I could relate to. For that reason alone, this is a good watch.
